What is a Podcast?

Podcasting is the distribution of audio or video files, such as radio programs, over the internet for listening on mobile devices like iPods, MP3 players and personal computers.

A podcast is a web feed of audio or video files placed on the Internet for anyone to download or subscribe to. Podcasters' websites also may offer direct download of their files, but the subscription feed of automatically delivered new content is what distinguishes a podcast from a simple download or real-time streaming. Usually, the podcast features one type of "show" with new episodes either sporadically or at planned intervals. Updates are downloaded automatically with a simple software. Visit the tours page to selct one of our tours.

Podcasting's essence is about creating content for an audience that wants to listen when they want, where they want, and how they want.

How does this relate to this website and the Heritage industry?
This website will be providing both types of tour, simple downloads which remain the same and relevant to a particular site, but also Podcasts that will be updated regularly for sites that are undergoing development, or where it is useful to recieved varied information. In some cases we will be featuring regular interviews with Museum Curators, talking about their site.
